Next Generation Table Tennis Robot?

Many of you will be familiar with table tennis robots which are able to feed balls to a player with varying degrees of speed and spin but the video below show a new type of robot which will actually return your shots. The two robots in this video took four years to develop at the Zhejiang Unversity. Wu and Kong have dual cameras mounted like eyes in a humanoid head that grab 120 images per second, enough to track the ball in flight. There are 30 different motors being used to replicate the movement of their shoulder, elbow and wrist to keep the game going.

Coach2Spin’s Head Coach, John Alsop, was pleased to help at the recent Under 12′s coaching day held at St Neots Table Tennis club under the direction of ETTA Eastern Regional coach Stephen Gertsen. It was pleasing to see 36 young athletes from across Beds, Cambs, Norfolk, Suffolk, Herts and Essex getting fully involved in the day and all wanting to improve their game.

Junior Table Tennis Club Starting

Starting on Thursday 4th August from 6.00pm-7.30pm at Church Lane Community Centre, 147 Church Lane, Bedford, MK41 0PW is a Junior club for players aged 10-17 years of age. The cost is £4 per person including coaching, bats and balls although it is recommended to bring your own bat. Come and have some fun, learn new skills and at the same time stay fit.

County Athlete Assessment Day (CAAD)

On Friday the 10th June Bedford Borough Council Sports Development team organised the 3rd annual Bedfordshire County Athlete assessment day (CAAD) at Bedford International Athletic Stadium. The event is part of a national “Playground to Podium” initiative that offers a series of targeted interventions aimed at helping young disabled people with varying impairments and support needs progress from PE and community sport to high-level performance and competition.

Each young person got the opportunity to take part in sport specific sessions delivered by top National coaches and over 30 young people from across Bedfordshire got the opportunity to be assessed in four sports (Wheelchair basketball, Football, Table Tennis and Athletics)

Coach2Spin were pleased to be invited by Aad Kwakkelstein, ETTA Eastern Region Disability Officer, to help assist with the table tennis coaching and everyone had a great time.
